During the first day of the European Figure Skating Championships there was a ceremonial meeting of figure skating legends and current Czech national team. The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Kateřina Valachová accepted the invitation for this event.
Valachová appreciated this unique event: “I like the idea of the meeting of the legends and the hopes of the Czech figure skating. I believe it indicates that they will gain some medals.“
President of the Czech Figure Skating Association Věra Tauchmanová, the President of the Organizing Committee Stanislav Židek, and the Ambassador of the Championships Tomáš Verner all took part in the ceremonial event.
The Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region Stanislav Folwarczny, the Mayor of Ostrava city Tomáš Macura and the Deputy of the Mayor Martin Štěpánek were not missing either.
The legends of the Czech and the Czechoslovak figure skating were represented by quadruple world champion Eva Romanová, silver Olympic medallist Karol Divín, world champions Radka Kovaříková and René Novotný and European bronze medallist Jitka Potůčková.
The members of the Czech national team were represented by Michaela Lucie Hanzlíková, Jiří Bělohradský, Michal Březina and ice dance pair Nicole Kuzmichová and Alexander Sinicyn. The figure skating pair Anna Dušková and Martin Bidař were missing due to the preparation for their short program.
